What is API3?

API3 is a protocol that allows decentralized APIs to be built, monetized and maintained at scale.

The aim of API3 is to overcome APIs not being able to connect to smart contracts connecting and transmit data. Over time what is known as the “Blockchain Oracle Problem” has arisen and API3 is solving this.

Over 140 datafeeds have been created to transmit data across 16 blockchains. All of this is done without a middleman or blockchain bridge making data communication more efficient and transparent. 

This new exciting protocol is available across top blockchain networks such as:

  • Ethereum
  • Binance Smart Chain
  • Polygon
  • Avalanche
  • Fantom

If you yourself are an API provider, you can join the API3 Alliance. It is the largest API provider in the whole of Web3 and is free to join. Getting involved allows you to enhance new businesses experience with blockchain that are in your respected industries.

The API3 token

The native token of API3 is also called AP13.

API3 token is used for governance within the ecosystem.

The API3 Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) is used to govern the dAPIs. Here token holders have a say over the setup, use and cost of APIs on AP13.

Any dApps using the APIs on AP13 pay fees with the token on a subscription basis. 

API3 token can also be used for staking to earn additional rewards to incentivize you to engage with the network.
