What is Numaraire?

Numerai is software that provides stock market predictions and facilitates investments based on machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Numeraire is an Ethereum token that powers its Numerai platform. This hedge fund-backed platform crowdsources AI to create investments in major stock markets around the world. Numeraire (NMR) holders can stake their NMR tokens every week on specific predictions. Successful and winning predictions are then rewarded with more NMR.

Based on Ethereum, this groundbreaking platform also allows developers and data scientists to experiment with huge data sets and coding to create these market-predicting AI models. 

Numeraire’s main goal is to bring blockchain-based decentralization to the data science field and allow developers to compete in creating effective machine learning prediction models for financial markets. 

To achieve its mission of providing high quality data, the Numerai offers two applications for different types of traders:

  • Signals: The stock market predictions and market strategies are uploaded. The application supports staking and incentivizes users with NMR tokens for uploading the projections.
  • Tournament: Allows users to submit trading algorithms in a weekly contest, this encourages competition and means anyone can bet on the most likely outcome. This platform also supports staking of NMR.


The NMR token

As an ERC-20 token, NMR is secured by Ethereum’s Proof of Stake consensus algorithm. This means that validators are chosen based on the amount of NMR tokens they have staked. 

NMR works primarily as a utility token and acts as the payments method on the platform, executing all the software operations and is also used for staking the outcomes of the predictions. The token is distributed as an incentive to participants of the Signals app and Tournament app.
